Proposals must be submitted by the 28 th January 2021 and selected projects are expected to start in Autumn 2021.

Sustainable ICT for the future of our Planet

While the increasing importance of digital technologies and solutions for the proper functioning of our society, especially in shaping this post-covid era, is undeniable, digital transformation is having a huge impact at the environmental level that brings along major challenges, but also many
opportunities.

On the one hand, digital technologies can accelerate decarbonization in line with societal goals by allowing dematerialization and online delivery, substitution of transport and travel, as well as greater energy efficiency in production. On the other hand, the ICT sector carbon footprint could consume up to 20% of global electricity by 2025, emitting 5.5% of CO2 emission, besides generating a tremendous quantity of waste (electronic and not only).

It is therefore of vital importance for the future of our society and ultimately of our planet that the growing community of individuals and organisations at work to develop sustainable ICT / digital technologies join forces. Only by mobilising all stakeholders it will be possible to reduce the digital sector’s carbon emissions and use technology as part of the solution to achieve the green transition.

Digital for Planet is a non-profit association that aims to grow this community and increase the positive impact of the many initiatives that are emerging both on the public and private sector.
