ABOUT THE OPEN CALL

The Call addresses urban centres interested to join the first cohort of 50 pilot cities under the Urban Transition Mission. The goal is to show integrated pathways to holistic, human-centred urban transitions based on clean energy and innovative net-zero carbon solutions. Cities with 50,000 or more inhabitants and a comprehensive climate and energy plan are invited to apply (more about the eligibility criteria).

ABOUT THE URBAN TRANSITION MISSION

The Urban Transitions Mission was launched at COP26 under the framework of Mission Innovation (MI) as a joint effort by the European Commission (DG Research & Innovation), the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) and the Joint Partnership Initiative (JPI) Urban Europe. By 2030, the Mission aims to mobilise 300 cities worldwide to advance their climate and energy action planning and implement systemic and innovative approaches for net-zero, resilient and people-centred transitions. The MI Urban Transitions Mission builds on the European Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. If you are interested to develop new projects to advance climate neutrality in the urban environment, check the Digital for Planet Working Group Climate-Neutral and Sustainable Smart Cities.
